Ernest Hooley, 1859-1947, was a stockbroker and company promoter first based in Nottingham and, from 1896, in London. He promoted numerous businesses that were to become well known, eg Dunlop Rubber Co Ltd, Raleigh Industries Ltd, Bovril Ltd, Schweppes Ltd, etc. He was several times made bankrupt and gaoled for financial misfeasance.
