Notes:

Established c1825 by Henry Hayes, 1798-1871, then a wheelwright. Emerged as leading carriage and waggon builders at Scotgate Works, Stamford. Had branches at Peterborough and London. Developed especially under Henry's son, John, 1821-1916. Sometime builders to the Prince of Wales. Made ammunition carts 1914-18, and latterly bodied motor vehicles. Closed 1924
