Notes:

Cornelius Lloyd jun and Sampson C Lloyd, merchants of Rotterdam, acquired 500 acres of coal bearing land at Halbeath in 1770. Developed mine and wagonway (opened c1783) to the sea at Inverkeithing and emerged as a major colliery on the Dunfermline Coalfield. Unprofitable and in 1785 sold at a loss to John Morrison, of County Durham, Richard Fishwick of Newcastle and John Campbell, lawyer of Edinburgh. Invested heavily and it eventually achieved profitability. Saltworks erected at around this time to use coal for salt production. 1789 operated as John Campbell & Co. Closed 1850
