Notes:

Traced origins to 1812 when established by Thomas Haimes, 1780-1825. Its output varied significantly over years. Early on noted for manufacture of warp knitted goods decorated with figures/flowers knitted into the fabric. Then main product was shawls. From 1820s also made lace good by warp process. By 1850s, when known as Haimes & Hancock, one of leading Melbourne knitting firms, made knitted gloves and mittens. Incorporated 1891. From 1914 made fine knitted fabrics and, after 1945, also clothing such as shirts, outerwear, etc
