Established in 1814. 1890s acquired by Walter Haddon when expanded very rapidly. 1914 head office at Salisbury Square, City of London. Employees totaled 1,500 in 1914. 1898 built Caxton Type Factory at Market Harborough. By 1914 had 'recently' acquired W H Dorman & Co Ltd, an engineering business at Stafford which had, inter alia, made printing machinery. In 1914 its activities were 1] managing advertising for wide range of businesses, notably manufacturing, via Haddon Advertising Agency; manufacturing equipment for printers including type at Caxton Type Factory, copper and zinc plates for engraving at Clapham, etc; printing at Southwark; buying and exporting a very wide range of goods for customers, especially in colonies; acting as import agents, especially for producers in colonies; engineering via W H Dorman & Co Ltd of Stafford, motor component / engine / printing equipment manufacturers
