Leading firm of London gunmakers. Traced origins to Benjamin Griffin, c1701-70, who acquired the business and Bond Street premises of his former master, Samuel Harrison, in 1736. In due course he became gunmaker to the king. Succeeded in business by his son, Joseph, c1727-83, also gunmaker to the King. John Tow became a partner in 1771 and ran business until 1792 when succeeded by Charles Grierson
