Gledhill business was established in Halifax in 1873 as retail drapers. c1886 diversified into making automatic cash tills for shops, selling first till in 1887, and disposed of drapery business in 1892. 1895 acquired Lofts of Cambridge, cash till makers. 1896 incorporated as G H Gledhill & Sons Ltd. 1912 acquired Stockall Brook Time Recorders Ltd of Huddersfield and formed Gledhill Brook Time Recorders Ltd to carry on the business. Supplied leading retailers such as Marks & Spencer Ltd. Made attendance recorders and marketed master clock systems (manufactured by Gent & Co, Leicester). 1964 Gledhill Brook acquired by Simplex Time Recorder Co of USA
