Traced origins to 1928 when created by a group of leading and old established malting businesss, led by Charterhouse Investment Trust (later Charterhouse Group), as a means of rationalising the malting industry. Emerged as a sector leader and dominant force. Effected through merger into Gilstrap Earp & Co Ltd of Newark, a quoted company, of Edward Sutcliffe Ltd of Mirfield, W J Robson & Co Ltd of Leeds, John Crisp & Son Ltd of Beecles and Samuel Thompson & Sons Ltd of Smethwick. Subsequently acquired numerous other malting businesses most notably H A & D Taylor Ltd in the late 1950s. Early 1970s acquired by Dalgety UK Ltd and in 1987 acquired by Pauls & Whites Ltd [2024]
