Under him and his son, W Garfield Weston, 1898-1978, became a leading North American food business with particular interests in baking. W G Weston established Allied Bakeries Ltd in UK in 1935 which rapidly emerged as a major food processing and, to a lesser extent, retailing business. Owned, inter alia, Fine Fare, British Sugar, Twinings, Allied Mills, etc, etc. Continues as a major UK business in which Garfield Weston Foundation is a substantial shareholder
