Traced origins to 1813 when the first of a group of copper and tin mines that came to be known as Fowey Consols Mine began production. From 1819 controlled by Joseph Treffry, d1850, and subsequently additional mines acquired. Emerged as one of the most important mines in Cornwall. Closed 1867
