Traced origins to 1781 when William Asprey, 1759-1827, set up in business at Mitcham as a silk printer. Subsequently diversified into manufacture of high quality luxury goods. Early lines were dressing cases and other portable goods for use in railway travel. 1840s established a luxury goods retailing business in New Bond St. From 1862 royal warrant holders. Grew by acquisition of established luxury goods production businesses. Came to establish a large workshop of gold and silversmiths, watchmakers, jewellers, etc. 1990 to 2002 known as Asprey & Garrard, later as Asprey International Ltd. Continues in 2021
