Traced origins to George Perry, d1771, who established in 1758 the Phoenix Foundry at Liverpool as a branch of the Darby business at Coalbrookdale. Succeeded in 1771 by Joseph Rathbone & Co. Joined by William Fawcett and became Rathbone & Fawcett. 1793 William Fawcett acquired the foundry from Darbys and the firm became Fawcett & Co. Now made naval cannon. Failed 1810 when business continued as Fawcett & Littledale. About 1815 began making steam engines and roller mills especially for West Indies sugar industry and also marine engines. 1820s known as Fawcett Preston & Co. Developed as leading marine engine and sugar machinery manufacturers. Moved from Liverpool to Bromborough 1935. 1947 acquired by Metal Industries Group
