Traced origins to Onazote Ltd, established at Willesden in 1921 by Charles Marshall to make expanded rubber products of use in insulation, buoyancy, as core material, sealant, etc. c1925 Expanded Rubber Co Ltd formed as a successor business. Reorganised 1936. Mid 1930s relocated to Croydon and subsequently opened factories at Slough and Dundee. 1938 acquired by St Helens Cable & Rubber Co Ltd. 1942 established Expanded Plastics Ltd and from 1943 controlled by BX Plastics Ltd. Ownership transferred to British Xylonite Co Ltd in 1948.
