Notes:

Traced origins to late 1830s and establishment of Joseph Ellis & Sons, coal merchants, by Joseph Ellis, 1790-1857. Initially had depots at Countesthorpe and Ullesthorpe followed by many others. Soon started fertilizer distribution, later also production, followed by animal feeds and building materials. 1848 Joseph Ellis established the parallel business of Ellis & Everard. Incorporated 1893 as Joseph Ellis & Sons Ltd. c1912 started chemical deliveries to textile businesses for British Dyestuffs Corp Ltd and in 1915 hived off into Ellis Chemical Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Joseph Ellis & Sons Ltd. This became a most successful business. By 1960s focusing on chemicals distribution and building supplies. 1963 Joseph Ellis & Sons Ltd merged with Ellis & Everard Ltd under the latter's name and converted to a public company.
