Notes:

Traced origins to c1820s when established by William and Charles Eley as manufacturers of gunmakers' accessories. 1827 making innovative Eley Patent Cartridges and later waterproof percussion caps. Expanded substantially as manufacturers of sporting ammunition. Incorporated 1874 as Eley Bros Ltd, a public company. 1908 established major new factory at Edmonton and soon manufactured lead shot and gunpowder. Industry rationalised in 1918 when merged into Explosives Trades Ltd, later Nobel Industries Ltd, and integrated into a much larger operation with manufacture transferred to Kynoch Works, Birmingham. Subsequently part of Imperial Metal Industries Ltd, later IMI Plc
