Traced origins as London gunmakers to Durs Egg, 1748-1831, a Swiss immigrant who established his business in London in c1778 and emerged as a leading maker of pistols and rifles. Gunmaker to the King. From 1831 business carried on by his son, John, with his foreman, John Masters.1878 taken over by Thomas W Watson, later Watson Brothers. Durs's nephew, Joseph Egg, 1775-1837, also was in business as a London gunmaker, starting in c1800. He was succeeded by his sons, Charles and Henry, who in 1838 acquired the business of Joseph Manton. Henry continued until 1880
