Established as Edinburgh American Land Mortgage Co Ltd in 1878 to invest in US mortgages especially on farmland. Soon diversified into, inter alia, US railway bonds. 1919 acquired by British Assets Trust Ltd, managed by Ivory & Sime, and renamed Second British Assets Trust Ltd when sold mortgage investments and acquired characteristics of a conventional investment trust. 1946 separately quoted again. 1976 renamed Edinburgh American Assets Trust Ltd
