Traced origins to 1900 and the formation of Hozier Engineering Co Ltd of Bridgeton, Glasgow, by Alexander Govan, 1869-1907, and William A Smith to make motor cars. 1905 reorganised as a public company, Argyll Motors Ltd. 1906 opened purpose built factory at Alexandria with plans for volume production. In liquidation 1908 when reconstructed on a smaller scale as Argylls Ltd in 1909. In voluntary liquidation 1914 when assets acquired by Argyll Motor Co Ltd formed for the purpose by, inter alia, John Brimlow. Thereafter made spare parts for existing cars before returning to motor vehicle production in 1920s. In liquidation 1932 [2024]
