Traced origins to 1835 when established by Samuel Dottridge, 1811-92, as a building and contracting business at Hoxton. Soon focused on undertaking and on manufacturing and wholesaling coffins, coffin furniture and other undertaking prerequisites in which it became a leading business. Established agencies overseas. Late 19th century known as Dottridge Brothers and incorporated in 1902. After 1918 acquired David Dickie & Sons (Glasgow) Ltd, suppliers of undertakers' prerequisites. Last of Dottridge family withdrew 1983. By 1980s owned 30 funeral directing businesses, 1988 acquired by Kenyon Securities Plc
