Traced origins to 1803 when established as a draper's shop in Oxford Street by Thomas Dickins, d1856, and William Smith. By 1827 known as Dickins, Smith & Stevens. 1835 moved to Regent Street. In 1856 known as Dickins & Jones. By 1890s did a mail order business. Incorporated 1900. From c1900 acquired other London retail businesses with an emphasis on drapery retail, especially silks. 1914 controlling interest acquired by Harrod's Stores Ltd. Subsequently part of House of Fraser Ltd [2023]
