Succeeded in business by his sons John, 1856-1929, and Thomas, 1864-1930, who grew the business into a leading Scottish whisky blending firm with, from 1890, support from Distillers Co Ltd from whom grain whisky was purchased. 1915 merged with James Buchanan to form Scotch Whisky Brands Ltd, later known as Buchanan Dewar Ltd. 1925 merged with The Distillers Co Ltd and John Walker & Sons Ltd but retained identity
