Traced origins to Joseph Dawson, a woollen textile business formed at Bradford in mid 19th century. Incorporated 1946 as Joseph Dawson Ltd and converted to public company, Joseph Dawson (Holdings) Ltd, in 1949. 1960 acquired by Todd & Duncan Ltd of Kinross in what was a reverse takeover. 1961 acquired Laidlaw & Fairgrieve Ltd of Galashields to become the world leading cashmere, lambswool and shetland spinners. Diversified into garment production. 1974 restructured as Dawson International Ltd and later known as Dawson International Plc. Continues as a world leading cashmere business
