Traced origins to 1690s. Sometime known as William Davies Jollands. Based at Bermondsey. By at least mid eighteenth century were emery manufacturers. Also later putty manufacturers. By 1850s also making putty powder and rouge, emery and glass cloth and glass paper. From 1853 known as W J Davies & Sons and incorporated 1911. From 1911 interest acquired by John Oakley & Co Ltd which continued until at least 1950s. Closed c1960s
