Located at Standard Ironworks. 1872 restyled Davey, Paxman & Co. Initially made steam corn drying machines and steam engines and boilers. From 1904 making gas engines and associated equipment, and from 1914 making diesel engines which became a core product, and in which the firm was a world leader, alongside equipment for metallurgical and extraction industries. Diesel engines employed, inter alia, in submarines. Incorporated 1898. 1920 merged into Agricultural & General Engineers Ltd, a large amalgamation of leading engineering businesses which collapsed in 1932. The firm was then reconstructed as Davey, Paxman & Co (Colchester) Ltd. From 1940 controlled by Ruston & Hornsby Ltd and in 1966 acquired by English Electric Co Ltd. Initially made steam boilers followed by steam engines. From 1904 built gas and oil engines, and diesel engines from 1925. Emerged as a world leader. 2000 acquired by MAN B&W Diesel of Germany
