Traced origins to John Davenport, 1765-1848, who in 1780s was in partnership with Thomas Wolfe who had a ceramics business at Stoke on Trent. Established own pottery at Longport in 1794 making earthenware, later china; soon afterwards he was also making white lead. 1801 established glassworks which initially traded as Davenport, Kinnersley & Grafton. This partnership ended 1807 when the business continued as J & J Davenport. Davenport's business were inherited by his sons and known as William Davenport & Co by 1850s. Business in decline from 1860s. Sometime established a presence at Liverpool and London. Incorporated as Davenports Ltd in 1881. In receivership 1887 when assets sold and business closed
