Traced origins to 1853 when James Dane, d1879, as Dane & Hemingway, established a printing ink production business in central London. Supplied newspaper trade and soon after diversified into varnishes and lampblack. Moved factory to Stratford, East London. 1870s known as Dane & Co. Incorporated 1937. Produced under licence from USA Day Glo pigments from 1950s with great success. 1960s specialised in screen inks when other ink businesses sold. 2006, when a world leading fluorescent pigments manufacturer, sold to RPM International of USA
