Notes:

David Dale, 1739-1806, set up in business in 1763 as a linen yarn dealer, sometime in partnership with Archibald Paterson. After 1769 broadened his interests in particular into cotton textile manufacture but also coal mining and dyeing. 1784 involved with Richard Arkwright in New Lanark Mills complex and subsequently with Robert Owen. Sold Lanark interests to his partners 1799. Associated with the Stanley Mills cotton spinning business at Stanley, near Perth.
