Traced origins to 1880s when Henry Curry, 1850-1916, started to make bicycles and mangles at his home. 1888 opened a shop and small factory. 1897 renamed H Curry & Sons. From 1904 opened additional retail outlets; by 1910 had seven. In 1920 diversified into electrical goods retailing. Incorporated 1922 and converted to public company in 1927 as Currys (1927) Ltd, later Currys Ltd. By 1939 had 221 branches. 1984 acquired by Dixons Group
