Promoted by Colonel John North. 1900 expanded into Argentina when renamed Bank of Tarapaca & Argentina Ltd. 1907 renamed Anglo South American Bank Ltd. By further acquisitions became largest British bank operating in South America by 1920. 1931 rescued by Bank of England and 1936 acquired by Bank of London & South America Ltd [2023]
