Traces origins to James F Blair, 1831-76, who set up in business in 1863 as a consulting engineer. Emerged as a leader in railway building working throughout the UK but especially in Scotland and also in Europe. His practice was subsequently acquired by William Crouch, a former employee of Blair who had set up his own practice in Glasgow in 1872. Subsequently joined by Charles P Hogg as Crouch & Hogg. 1990 merged with Waterman Partners to form Crouch, Hogg, Waterman
