Notes:

Traced origins to 1750s and subsequently acquired by Carron Co. c1771 passed to Cadell family as part of the arrangements for their withdrawal as partners in Carron Co. Cadells were longstanding Scottish merchants who in 1749 established sulphuric acid making interests at Prestonpans and who, in 1759, with John Roebuck and Samuel Gartbett, formed the Carron Co ironfounding business. Under William Cadell, c1737-1819, Cramond developed into a major business making a wide range of goods, from iron bars and hoops to nails and shovels and later steel. Gave up Cramond interests in c1860 and works closed c1867
