Traced origins to Overton Forge managed from 1913 by Ernest F G Cox, 1883-1959, on behalf of father in law. 1913 Cox established Cox & Danks Ltd which operated a forge [?at Sheffield] and participated in munitions production. After war, focused on scrap metal processing and, from 1921, shipbreaking at Queensborough. Purchased German warships scuttled at Scapa Flow after First World War and salvaged them for scrap. Established scrapyards throughout Britain in 1930s. 1933 sold shipbreaking business to Alloa Shipbreaking Co Ltd, later Metal Industries Ltd. 1949 Cox & Danks sold to Metal Industries Ltd.
