Traced origins to Alfred C Cossor who in 1890 left his father's Clerkenwell scientific glassware business, later known as A C Cosser & Son (Surgical) Ltd, to form a business which initially made innovative fluorescent tubes and X-ray tubes. Incorporated 1908. Diversified into glass valves for radios and later televisions. Later made radio and television sets and radar equipment. 1938 public company. Diversified further into electronics and established Electronic Tubes Ltd in 1945 which was later sold to EMI Ltd. Sold radio and television interests to Philips NV in 1958. 1961 acquired by Raytheon of USA
