Traces origins to 1861 when established as Aspinall, Cornes & Co at Yokohama by William G Aspinall, a tea dealer, and Frederick Cornes, 1837-1927, a silk dealer, as commission agents. Both had formerly worked in Shanghai. By 1869 largest silk exporters at Yokohama.1867 opened a London office. 1873 renamed Cornes & Co. Also imported into Japan UK cotton textiles, metal goods, coal, etc. Soon diversified into agency services owning a wide range of business assets in Japan and representing many UK businesses. Continues as a major international trading house at Yokohama
