Notes:

Traced origins to William Cook, c1784-1869, who in 1807 joined a Mr Martin in partnership as linen drapers at Clerkenwell. By 1814 sole owner when established a wholesale warehouse as a 'Manchester & Scotch Warehouseman' at Monument. 1834 moved to St Paul's Churchyard. In early 19th century traded variously as Cook & Gladstones and Cook Son & Gladstones. By mid century a leading wholesale house. Also had substantial manufacturing interests. 1920 converted to a public company and in late 1940s wholesaling clothing under own label.
