Notes:

Traced origins to Joseph Constantine, 1856-1922, who initially operated as a ship chandler. From 1880s started shipowning and management with Warley Pickering. By 1901 shipowning business carried on as Constantine & Pickering Steamship Co Ltd and the chandlery business as Constantine Pickering & Co. Latter sold c1910. In 1907 Meteor Steamship Co Ltd established to operate coasters. By 1914 had 21 ocean going vessels and six coasters. 1920 reorganised as Joseph Constantine Steamship Line Ltd. From 1920s developed shipbroking, forwarding and agency work which expanded rapidly after 1945.1966 reorganised as Constantine Holdings Ltd and by late 1960s had withdrawn from shipowning to focus on shipbroking, etc, and property. Continues as a family owned investment company
