Established c1835 at Bromley by Bow, London, by Aeneas Coffey, 1780-1852, to manufacture 'Coffey' apparatus for use in large scale distilling. Patented by Coffey in 1830 and initially manufactured in Ireland. Known from start as Aeneas Coffey & Sons. Continued by his sons from 1852. Acquired in 1872 by his foreman, John Dore, d1896, and in due course became John Dore & Co. Incorporated 1941. Continuing in 1966 in ownership of Dore family as 'coppersmiths, distillers and brewers' engineers and chemical plant manufacturers'. The apparatus was an enduring innovation still in wide use in 1960s
