Established in 1929 as Allied Suppliers Ltd as a vehicle in the reorganisation and centralisation of the group of food retailing and processing businesses brought to gether by the Dutch businesses of Van den Berghs Ltd and Jurgens Ltd. The former had acquired, inter alia, Meadow Dairy Co Ltd in 1912, which had acquired Broughs Ltd in 1918, Keeloma Dairy Co Ltd in 1909, Pearks Dairies Ltd in 1914 and Lipton Ltd in 1927. The latter had acquired Home & Colonial Stores Ltd in 1919 which in 1924 acquired Maypole Dairy Co Ltd. The latter had acquired Otto Monsted Ltd, margarine makers, in 1912. 1959, when the group - known as Home & Colonial Stores Ltd - was again reorganised and centralised, the main holding company was renamed Allied Suppliers Ltd. Acquired by Cavenham Foods Ltd in 1972 and in 1982 sold to Argyll Group
