Traced origins to 1855 when established by James Clark, d1882, initally making glass for mirrors and as windows for gas meters. Emerged as sheet glass factors/suppliers/cutters/decorators/etc. About early 1860s known as James Clark & Son. Incorporated 1899. 1919 acquired Walter Gibbs & Son Ltd which specialised in stained glass and leaded lights. From 1920 opened branches in home counties. 1940 merged with Eaton, Parr & Gibson Ltd when known as James Clark & Eaton Ltd
