Traced origins to Charles Churchill & Co, established in 1865, by Charles Churchill, d1916, of USA, to import machine tools from USA. 1889 incorporated as Charles Churchill & Co Ltd. 1901 started to manufacture in UK, initially at Salford and from 1904 at Pendleton. This manufacturing activity was sold to the newly formed Churchill Machine Tool Co Ltd in 1906 and the two companies worked in parallel. In the 1930s they diverged when Charles Churchill started to manufacture machine tools initially through acquisition of Cornelius Redman & Son which it controlled from 1934 and which was renamed Churchill Redman. Emerged as a major UK manufacturer of machine tools as well as an important importer and distributor. 1966 acquired by Tube Investments Ltd. Head office initially at Manchester, later London and later Birmingham
