Tryall Holcroft, 1809-80, was a small scale silk manufacturer who started in business at Congleton in c1830 in partnership with others. The business failed in c1839 when the family briefly entered the grocery and provision trade. Returned to silk manufacture in 1844 but subsequently failed further times. In 1862 joined the Macclesfield firm of T & J Brocklehurst & Sons as manager of throwing operations. Known in history on account of the survival of his diary/journal
