Captain John Perry, 1670-1733, was a naval officer who became a civil engineer specialising in harbours, etc. Especially noted for his works in Russia for the Tsar in early 18th century and for his work in connection with the reconstruction of the Thames embankment at Dagenham. Otherwise involved with designs for harbours at Dublin, Dover and Rye and drainage works at Spalding
