John Chapman, 1801-54. Son of John Chapman, c1754-1840, clockmaker of Loughborough. He established at Loughborough, in partnership with his brother, William, the firm of J & W Chapman which made machinery for lace industry. Failed 1834. In London in 1830s involved in Safety Cabriolet & Two Wheel Carriage Co which made hansom cabs to Chapman's design. 1840s involved in promotion of Great Indian Peninsula Railway Co
