Traced origins to 1867 when established by Archibald Beveridge, 1845-92, as lithographic printers. On his death, John H Allen, 1855-1951, had control of the business. Initially known as Kirkcaldy Steam Printing Works and soon after as Couper & Allen. Expanded rapidly and by 1880s served customers as far away as England. In particular did much work for Michael Nairn & Co Ltd for whom linoleum pattern books were printed. Incorporated 1900 as Allen Lithographic Co Ltd. Also developed a stationery production and retailing business. 1929 acquired bookbinding and paper ruling business of Joseph Turner of Kirkcaldy. 1988 acquired by Inglis Paul of Falkirk to become Inglis Allen Ltd. 2007 in administration
