Established at Wick in 1961 by local landowner, Lord Thurso, as a response to declining employment opportunities. Opened additional production facilities at Oban (1969) and Perth (1979). Used local sand (although not suitable for making clear glass). Royal warrant 1968. Made coloured glass, often decorative, and noted for paperweights. 1981 acquired James Powell & Sons Ltd, aka Whitefriars Glass, of London. Moved headquarters to Perth 1995. 2004 in administration and from 2006 acquired by Dartington Glass and now operates solely from Crieff, Perth
