Traced origins to Cox & Co (France) Ltd established by Cox & Co, army agents, in 1915 to provide banking services to the British army and its personnel in France. Later in 1915 London & South Western Bank Ltd took a substantial interest. The latter's interest subsequently passed to London, Provincial & South Western Bank Ltd and in 1918 to Barclays Bank Ltd. After 1918 Cox & Co's and other shareholders' interests were acquired by Barclays and the business was transferred to a new entity, Barclays Bank (Overseas) Ltd which from 1926 was renamed Barclays Bank (France) Ltd. By 1955 had 12 branches in France and North Africa. Its business was subsequently divided between other Barclay entities [2023]
