Established in 1901 at Doncaster by James W Chafer. Initially made fungicides to counteract potato disease and the associated crop spraying equipment which was leased to farmers. By 1930s fast developing a regional presence and a national reputation. By 1960s had 12 depots.1960s diversified into manufacture, distribution and spraying of liquid fertilisers which expanded rapidly. Between 1969-79 acquired by ICI Ltd and in 1988 sold on to Norsk Hydro. 2000 Chafer Machinery Ltd established as an independent company to make machinery
