Traces origins to Cazenove family of Huguenots who came to London in the 18th century. In 1823 Philip Cazenove, d1882, joined in partnership with John F Menet, d1835, as Menet & Cazenove, stockbrokers. By 1836 Cazenove in partnership with Joseph Laurence and Charles Pearce as Laurence, Cazenove & Pearce. From 1855 in partnership with his son and nephew as P Cazenove & Co. In 1884 this firm merged with Akroyd & Sons to become known as Cazenove & Akroyds, and, on merger with Greenwood & Co in 1932, as Cazenove, Akroyds & Greenwood & Co until 1954. Thereafter Cazenove & Co. Between wars emerged as a leading London broker, a position consolidated after 1945. 2000 business incorporated as Cazenove Group Ltd. 2004-09 investment banking division acquired by J P Morgan Chase.
