Established 1911 in Islington, London, as Carnegie Brothers by R B Carnegie to make and distribute pharmaceuticals such as aspirin, iodides, quinine, etc. Expanded to meet wartime demand, 1914-18. Incorporated 1931. 1936 Donald Carnegie, son of founder, established an independent business, Carnegie Chemicals (Welwyn) Ltd, to make pharmaceuticals. 1942 original business was sold but in 1949 its chemical division was reacquired as Carnegie Brothers (1949) Ltd.
