Edward Lancaster Burne, 1869-1946, was a consulting engineer notably interested in windmills especially for electricity generation. In 1895, with William Dickinson, bought Guildford works of Wayman & Hitchcock Ltd, makers of engines and agricultural machinery, and traded as Dickinson & Burne, engineers and ironfounders although Burne sold his interest in 1900. Then he established himself as a consulting engineer specialising in mechanical and electrical services for hospitals. In early 1920s made an agreement with English Brothers Ltd, Wisbech, to produce electricity generating windmills which they did until 1924
